Loving Kindness

Unit 4

1. This practice exercise for me was a work in progress, because I am unable to relax with background noise. A quiet environment for me is better to relax in than noise. It is also hard to think when there is noise, I think better in a noise-free environment. Although, I would recommend this to others because some people can actually relax better this way.

2.  Mental Workout is when you allow the mind to purge itself from all the thoughts, stress, and worries that go along with life. A mental workout allows new growth, one feels more grateful and blessed. One can actually change the course of his/her health and life. I can implement mental workouts to foster my psychological health by practicing positive thinking, meditation, and prayer.

  1. You raise a good point about how not all people can relax with background noise. I am one of the people who can relax with noise. In fact, I listen to a sound machine playing rain while I fall asleep. I have been using a sound machine for years now and have a hard time falling asleep if I don't have it. However, I have a hard time reading and concentrating with noise. If I am not in complete silence my mind wanders and I end up re-reading a low of material.

Positive thinking, meditation, and prayer are all great methods for getting a mental workout. Have you started to incorporate these exercises more into your life since starting this class?

  2. Hi, Nakeia!

I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the loving kindness exercise as well as on mental workouts. I agree that it can be very hard to concentrate with noise in the background. I imagine you are a referring to the noise in the back of the exercise. It seemed to both me at first as well. However, the longer I listened it actually sounded like the ocean and was slightly relaxing. The hardest part for me is getting to the point of relaxation where I can even focus on listening. It can be difficult and you make many good points.

As for mental workouts it is the process of training the mind. I love how you say it allows new growth because that really is its goal. Having new abilities to use more of our mind is wonderful. Excellent post and have a great week!
